What do we know about Season 2 of Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina?
The Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina light novel series has been published by SB Creative since April 15, 2016 in Japan. Nineteen volumes have been published as of October 15, 2022. A manga adaptation scripted by Shiraishi Jougi and drawn by Nanao Ikki began publication in Gangan Online and was released on November 29, 2018. Publisher Square Enix is releasing the chapters in tankōbon format, with the first volume being released on April 12, 2019. Four volumes have been released as of October 15, 2022.
An anime adaptation was announced on October 19, 2019 during the GA Fes 20197 event. The series was produced by C2C studio and contained a total of 12 episodes, which aired from October 2, 2020 to December 18, 2020. In Japan, the channels broadcasting the series are AT-X, Tokyo MX, KBS, SUN, BS11 and TVA. The series was also broadcast outside of Japan through different distributors. And that’s about it.
As you can see, the future of the Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina anime is quite uncertain, but not because there’s no interest or lack of material. The series was fairly popular back in the day, and it’s been only two years since the first season which, along with the fact anime series usually run while there’s a need to promote the written materials, gives us reasons to be hopeful.

The original light novel series is still ongoing, which means that there still is a need to promote the written materials; with the first season of the anime being relatively new, this is a great sign for the future of the Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina anime. All of this doesn’t necessarily mean that Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina is actually going to return for another season, but the chances are not that bad so we’ll just have to see whether there is enough interest for a continuation to make any proper predictions about the potential continuation of the series. The first season received solid reviews, but we simply don’t know enough to make any predictions about the show’s future.
In any case, the earliest we could see a potential second season is late 2023, but we’d have to get some confirmation on the future during 2022 or easily 2023; 2024 also seems like a strong possibility. The fans are demanding a new season, but we’ll just have to see how it goes; as far as things stand now, a cancelation has not been confirmed, but we cannot rule it out either. It all depends on the future so we’ll just have to wait.
What could be the plot of Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina Season 2?
At this moment, we do not know how far the second season of Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina could take us because we don’t know how many additional volumes of the light novel series the season could potentially adapt. Namely, due to a lack of information in general, we have absolutely no clue how far the second season might go if it even happens. What follows is an overview of the original material so you can get a rough idea of what you could expect from the series.
A witch named Elaina embarks on a journey to explore the world. On this journey she explores different places and gets to know other people. So she visits a land inhabited by other witches and meets, among other things, a giant who is in love with his muscles. With each encounter, Elaine learns that she will be part of the life story of her new acquaintances and that her worldview will continue to expand.
What could be the cast of Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina Season 2?
It’s still too early for us to discuss a potential second season of Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina in terms of cast and characters, simply because we do not know whether there will even be a second season. But, seeing how we know that the series is going to have a more-or-less fixed cast, we really don’t expect to see too many changes in the structure of season two, if it ever happens. Now, the main characters that have appeared in season one, likely to return for a second season, include:
- Elaina
Japanese voice: Kaede Hondo
Elaina grew up reading stories about the adventures of a witch named Victorica. She became a witch to explore the world. She is known as “The Ash Witch”. - Fran
Japanese voice: Kana Hanazawa
Known as the “Stardust Witch”. She is Elaina’s mentor. Beneath her easygoing demeanor lies an incredibly powerful and knowledgeable witch. She was a disciple of Victorica. The most important thing she taught Elaina is to stand up for herself and not just take the abuse in the hopes that everything will work out. - Saya
Japanese voice: Tomoyo Kurosawa
This is an apprentice witch (at the beginning of the story). She relies a lot on others and lacks self-confidence. She has a mad love for Elaina, to the point that she asked her mentor for a name that would bring her closer to the ash witch: during her enthronement, she was finally named “the coal witch”. - Sheila
Japanese voice: Yōko Hikasa
Known as the “Night Witch”, she is a member of the Association of Magic that investigates abuse. She is Saya and Mira’s mentor. Like Fran, she was a disciple of Victorica. - Mina
Japanese voice: Minami Takahashi
This is Saya’s little sister. She is very angry and distant. She was separated from Saya – to whom she was very close – when she joined Sheila in the Magic Association. She is jealous of the closeness between Saya and Elaina.
