How often should a student use the Real-Time Diagnostic? ›

Diagnostic assessments should be conducted throughout every lesson, at each stage of the learning process, and whenever a decision needs to be made by the teacher about what should happen next in the lesson.

Previous studies found that higher IXL usage is related to better academic performance. To maximize student learning gains, IXL recommends that students aim to reach proficiency in at least two IXL skills per week (2 SP/week).

A student's diagnostic level represents their working grade level. So a level of 400 represents a readiness to start working on 4th-grade skills, and a level of 450 means the student is about halfway through the 4th-grade curriculum.

Make sure your child has scratch paper and a pencil handy to work through questions as needed. Only advance high school students who commonly use a calculator in class should use one when working in the diagnostic.

When should assessment take place? The simple answer is that it should take place at every stage of the learning process and it should be fairly frequent. Of course, there are many different forms of assessment.
